Comics, poetry and tales from an island where “Oh no” is a perfectly reasonable opening line.

"Kitty

It started with a boy looking at the stars.

Tig goes out to draw the Perseid meteor shower. Unfortunately, the authorities have opinions about being outside after curfew. His sister Kitty Loveheart has opinions about the authorities.

And so begins a journey into the Isle of Plumii: an invented world drawn, stitched, written and stubbornly brought into existence.

The comic reader is still being prepared. Until then, consider this your first glimpse through the porthole.

Some things insist on making noise.

Songs, lyrics and instruments belong to the same handmade world. Discover the characters’ musical lives, talk to Kit about composing for the Isle, or step into the workshop of Marvelous Machines.

Curiosity.
With its sleeves rolled up.

I’m Kit Plumridge, an artist based in Carpinteria, Santa Barbara. I paint the coast, draw imagined worlds, stitch leather characters, bend steel, and write poetry.

You can also find my paintings at Portico Fine Art Gallery in Montecito / Santa Barbara →.

The materials change; the curiosity stays. Humor is often the way in. There is room for something deeper once you’re here.

Paintings from this side of the shore.

Back on the mainland, the coast still has my attention. Explore my paintings through my artist page at Portico Fine Art Gallery in Montecito / Santa Barbara.

Find your place on the Isle.

An imaginary island has room for very real talents. Bring your peculiar gift. Sensible qualifications are not necessarily an advantage.

"Calligraphic
An example from the island archives: Clif Magness, Creative Music Force.

Every island needs a few unusual callings.

Relic Maker — giving curious objects another life.

Painter of Unlikely Places — making a world worth looking at.

Keeper of Curious Machines — a practical mind with questionable restraint.

Teller of Tall Tales — keeping the island interesting.

Musical Instigator — disturbing the peace, melodically.

Guardian of Unlikely Creatures — someone has to keep an eye on them.

Or simply: still discovering my peculiar gift.

Residency registration is coming later. The plan is to let you choose your island calling, confirm your email, and receive a personalised certificate. This is a preview of the concept; no registration form or automatic certificate service is active yet.

Plumii Ikigai

Your peculiar gift, put to good use.

A little compass for what you love, what you do well, what the island needs, and what sustains your life. Not an examination. Certainly not a productivity seminar.

Paint, make relics, tell stories, play music, or bring the sort of curiosity that makes everyone else look twice. There is more than one way to belong.

A painting, a character, a collaboration, or something that requires a little explanation.
Those are often the best ones.
