Marvelous Machines

A drawing appears, line by deliberate line, while the machine gets on with the strangely absorbing business of making it. Kit’s automatic drawing machines turn the act of drawing into a performance of its own.

The workshop includes polar-graph drawing devices associated with Hobson Pinqney, the Biking Viking. This is where the demonstrations, close-ups and films of the drawing process will live.

Kit’s “Village Of The Sun” slot-machine artwork brings the fairground into the island’s mechanical world. A cabinet, a performance, and an excellent excuse to pull a lever.

A filmed demonstration and the story of its construction will be added here. This is an artwork showcase—not an online gambling game.

The Wizard of Theremin has more than one way to disturb the silence. Alongside his sound box sits the Pinball Wizard machine: another meeting of music, movement and an imagination with very little respect for the instruction manual.

When the Plague Doctor is off duty, the Pachinko Dukebox offers a rather unusual diversion. Kit transformed a Japanese pachinko machine into a sound-playing artwork, with a custom Arduino-controlled sound system by Mark Estes.

The original work includes “Hall Of Souls” songs by Alon Goldsmith and Dale Yudelman, alongside readings of Verne, Wells and Orwell. The Doctor’s world is never entirely quiet.
